What the four ratings mean

CQC gives one of four ratings. They are the same four for every care service in England, which is what makes them worth comparing.

  1. Outstanding

The service is performing exceptionally well.

  2. GoodOur rating

The service is performing well and meeting expectations.

  3. Requires improvement

The service is not performing as well as it should, and CQC has told it to improve.

  4. Inadequate

The service is performing badly, and CQC has taken action against the provider running it.

What a rating does and does not tell you

A CQC rating is a judgement about a service at the time it was assessed. It is independent, it is evidence-based, and it is the best single indicator there is — but it is not a recommendation, an endorsement or an accreditation, and CQC does not give any of those.

It also cannot tell you whether a particular service suits a particular person. That still comes from meeting the team, asking how they would handle the things you are worried about, and reading the report rather than the rating. The report says what CQC actually found, and we would rather you read it than take our word for any of this.

Ratings change. The date above is when this assessment was published; the CQC website always carries the current position, and the badge on this page is served by CQC rather than drawn by us, so it cannot go stale while we are not looking.
